Testosterone Linked to Weight Loss in Obese Men

Testosterone Linked to Weight Loss in Obese Men When Levels Were Low, Testosterone Replacement Led to Lost Weight, Smaller Waists By Salynn Boyles WebMD Health News Reviewed by Brunilda Nazario, MD May 9, 2012 -- Testosterone replacement may promote weight loss in obese older men who have low levels of the male sex hormone, a new study shows. But before men try to lose weight by bumping up their testosterone, experts agree that more studies are needed to show that the treatment is both safe and effective. Researchers followed a group of mostly older, overweight men receiving injections of the hormone for up to five years to treat erectile dysfunction and other symptoms associated with low testosterone. Their findings were presented at the 19th European Congress on Obesity in Lyon, France. The men who were treated the longest lost more than 30 pounds on average over the course of the study, and also showed improvements in blood pressure, blood glucose, and LDL (bad) cholesterol. Researcher Farid Saad, DVM, says the dramatic weight loss came as a surprise. "This study was not performed for the purpose of promoting weight loss," he tells WebMD. "This was an incidental finding that was entirely unexpected." Low Testosterone Common in Obese Men The study included middle-aged and older overweight or obese men with low testosterone levels being treated with testosterone replacement at a single urology clinic. A total of 214 men remained in the study for at least two years, and just over half of these men were followed for another three years or more. All the study participants received a long-acting injected testosterone, with two injections given during the first six weeks of treatment followed by injections every three months as long as they remained in the study. Men who were treated the longest lost the most weight and saw the biggest reductions in waist circumference and body mass index (BMI). After five years of follow-up, the average weight loss was 35 pounds and the average waist circumference dropped from about 42 to 38 inches. Most men also saw improvements in triglyceride levels, blood pressure, blood sugar, and LDL cholesterol. Saad is a researcher with Bayer Pharma AG, of Berlin, Germany. Bayer manufacturers the long-acting testosterone treatment the men received, which has not been approved for use in the U.S. Saad says the men in the study may have lost weight on the testosterone therapy because they had more energy to exercise. "This is a theory, and, certainly, more research is needed to confirm our findings," he tells WebMD. Testosterone for Weight Loss: 'More Study Needed' There are concerns that prolonged testosterone therapy could increase prostate cancer risk, but there was no evidence of this among the men in the study. University of Buffalo endocrinologist Sandeep Dhindsa, MD, agrees that more study is needed to confirm the safety and usefulness of replacement therapy for weight loss in men with low testosterone. Dhindsa's own research, published two years ago, showed that low testosterone is common in obese men, especially those with diabetes. "The weight loss reported in this study was much greater than that reported in other studies," he tells WebMD. "Given this outcome and the safety questions about this treatment, it is important to replicate these findings." These findings were presented at a medical conference. They should be considered preliminary as they have not yet undergone the "peer review" process, in which outside experts scrutinize the data prior to publication in a medical journal.

PARACETAMOL

PARACETAMOL Panadol: When we were in Mumbai (India) a learned History professor there told us that the Parsees (A sect in India) used to take their Dead & lay them to rest @ huge 'Wind Towers' (round structures that Look like Giant Water reservoirs, but open to the air)...The Parsees never buried their dead, nor burned them. They leave them to the Birds of Prey (Vultures) to be eaten thus completing the Life Cycle.. Around 10 years ago, it was noticed that the Birds are dying off. Not many of them were left to consume the dead bodies (which started rotting away)...So, the Parsees had to change this mode of dealing with their dead.. BUT, they wanted to know why a Custom that survived for hundreds of years, had to be suspended?!! They did Autopsies on Dead Birds (they were dying in huge #'s)..What was the Culprit??? PARACETAMOL (aka PANADOL)...!! People started consuming pain-killers a decade ago, Panadol STAYS in the Liver for a Long Time...It ultimately accumulated in the Birds' systems & they couldn't cope with it! Interesting to know... PANADOL My husband was working in a hospital as an IT engineer, as the hospital is planning to set up a database of its patients and he knows some of the doctors quite well. The doctors used to tell him that whenever they have a headache, they are not willing to take PANADOL / PARACETAMOL. In fact, they will turn Herbal Medicine or find other alternatives. This is because Panadol is toxic to the body, and it harms the liver. According to the doctor: Panadol will remain in the body for at least 5 years.....!! And according to the doctor, there was an air-hostess who consumed lots of Panadol as she needed to stand all the time and work under lots of pressure. She's now in her early 30's, and she is undergoing kidney cleaning (DIALYSIS) every month. Whenever we have a headache, that's because it is due to the electron / Ion imbalance in the brain. Some alternative solution to cope with this matter is Drink lots of water. Another method will be to submerge your feet in a basin of warm water so that it brings the blood pressure down from your throbbing head. As Panadol is a pain killer, the more Panadol you take, the lesser would be your threshold for pain (your endurance level for pain). We all will fall ill as we age. Imagine that we had spent our entire life popping quite a substantial amount of Panadol (Pain Killer), when you need to have a surgery or operation, you will need a much more amount of general anesthesia. The thought is scary enough to turn me to Herbal Medicine or other healthier alternative. Value your health, value your life, THINK TWICE before you easily pop that familiar pill into your mouth again. Please don't take PANADOL always and try to send this e-mail to people you care. Here in India it is sold as CROCIN or METACIN

Few of the key EAAs which Ragi has are Valine, Methionine, Isoleucine, Threonine and Tryptophan. Below section beiefly explains why these are essential for us Valine is essential for repair of tissues, muscle coordination and metabolism and also help maintain balance of nitrogen in the body. It also help promote mental calmness and enhance maintain mental vigor. Isoleucine is essential for ensuring blood formation, keeping a check on blood sugar levels. The Sulfur which we get from Methionine helps produce a substance called lecithin which helps reduce cholesterol, reduce fat inside the livers and help protect kidneys. This methionine is generally lacking in staple diet of some of the vegetarians and hence regular Ragi intake will help get enough of these amino acids. Ragi Nutrition Chart (Amino Acids) Amino Acids Content Amount (mg/g of protein) Leucine 594 Valine 413 Phenylalanin 325 Isoleucine 275 Threonine 263 Methionine 194 Tryptophan 191 Lysine 181 Cystine 163 Ragi Vs Other Grains (Wheat, Maize, Brown Rice) Below table shows how Ragi (finger millet) stands against other staple grains – Wheat, Maize and Brown Rice. Are You Suffering from Heart Diseases? Or have you been advised to undergo Angiography or Bypass? Please Wait……………………..============================================================= Before you undergo Angiography or Bypass treatment, you must try with confidence this remedy. Insha Allah, you will be cured.=================================================================================== On the 18th April last year, I had to go to Sahiwaal(Pakistan) from the UK to attend the annual Khatme-e-Nabuwat conference. The day before I suffered acute pain at the place of my heart and thereafter, experienced uncomforting which continued for quite some time. I then met in Pakistan Hazrat Moulana Bashir Ahmed Usmani Sahib and disclosed to him, that when the doctors performed Angiography on me, they advised Bypass as they discovered 3 of my arteries were blocked and given a date to operate after a month. During this period, a Hakim prescribed the remedy below which I consumed exactly for a month. A day before my bypass operation, I arrived at the Cardiology Hospital in Lahore (Pakistan) and deposited Pak Rs. 225,000.00 towards expenses for my Bypass surgery. After taking a close look at these results and my previous results, the Doctors then asked me if I took any medication after the previous tests were carried out. I told them of Hakim Sahebs prescribed remedy. The panel of Doctors, surprised by the results, then informed me that according to the latest reports all 3 arteries were open and functioning normally and that surgery was not required. I was refunded my deposit and told to go home. Hazrat Moulana Bashir Ahmed Usmani Saheb himself, prepared this medicine for me and also told me of it’s ingredients and how it is prepared which is as follows: 1 Cup Fresh Lemon Juice 1 Cup Fresh Ginger Juice 1 Cup Fresh Garlic Juice 1 Cup Apple Cider Vinegar 3 Cups Honey Mix all the juices & vinegar and boil very slowly for about half an hour until about 1 cup of contents evaporate and 3 cups remain. After it cools down, mix properly with the 3 cups of honey. Fill contents in a clean Jar and take 3 teaspoons on an empty stomach every morning. Insha Allah you will be cured.
