Important Information About Vitamin D!

Important Information About Vitamin D!

Vitamin D prevents osteoporosis, depression, prostate cancer, breast cancer, and even effects diabetes and obesity.

Vitamin D is perhaps the single most underrated nutrient in the world of nutrition. That's probably because it's free: your body makes it when sunlight touches your skin.

Fifteen facts that are important to know about vitamin D and sunlight exposure:

1. Vitamin D is produced by your skin in response to exposure to ultraviolet radiation from natural sunlight.

2. The healing rays of natural sunlight (that generate vitamin D in your skin) cannot penetrate glass. So you don't generate vitamin D when sitting in your car or home.

3. It is nearly impossible to get adequate amounts of vitamin D from your diet. Sunlight exposure is the only reliable way to generate vitamin D in your own body.

4. A person would have to drink ten tall glasses of vitamin D fortified milk each day just to get minimum levels of vitamin D into their diet.

5. The further you live from the equator, the longer exposure you need to the sun in order to generate vitamin D. Canada, the UK and most U.S. States are far from the equator.

6. People with dark skin pigmentation may need 20 - 30 times as much exposure to sunlight as fair-skinned people to generate the sam e amount of vitamin D. That's why prostate cancer is epidemic among black men - it's a simple, but widespread, sunlight deficiency.

7. Sufficient levels of vitamin D are crucial for calcium absorption in your intestines. Without sufficient vitamin D, your body cannot absorb calcium, rendering calcium supplements useless.

8. Chronic vitamin D deficiency cannot be reversed overnight: it takes months of vitamin D supplementation and sunlight exposure to rebuild the body's bones and nervous system.

9. Even weak sunscreens (SPF=8) block your body's ability to generate vitamin D by 95%. This is how sunscreen products actually cause disease -by creating a critical vitamin deficiency in the body.

10. It is impossible to generate too much vitamin D in your body from sunlight exposure: your body will self-regulate and only generate what it needs.

11. If it hurts to press firmly on your sternum, you may be suffering from chronic vitamin D deficiency right now.

12. Vitamin D is "activated" in your body by your kidneys and liver before it can be used.

13. Having kidney disease or liver damage can greatly impair your body's ability to activate circulating vitamin D.

14. The sunscreen industry doesn't want you to know that your body actually needs sunlight exposure because that realization would mean lower sales of sunscreen products.

15. Even though vitamin D is one of the most powerful healing chemicals in your body, your body makes it absolutely free. No prescription required.

On the issue of sunlight exposure, by the way, it turns out that super antioxidants greatly boost your body's ability to handle sunlight without burning. Astaxanthin is one of the most powerful "internal sunscreens" and can allow you to stay under the sun twice as long without burning.

Other powerful antioxidants with this ability include the super fruits like Acai, Pomegranates (POM Wonderful juice), blueberries, etc.

Diseases and conditions cause by vitamin D deficiency:

* Osteoporosis is commonly caused by a lack of vitamin D, which greatly impairs calcium absorption.

* Sufficient vitamin D prevents prostate cancer, breast cancer, ovarian cancer, depression, colon cancer and schizophrenia.

* "Rickets" is the name of a bone-wasting disease caused by vitamin D deficiency.

* Vitamin D deficiency may exacerbate type 2 diabetes and impair insulin production in the pancreas.

* Obesity impairs vitamin D utilization in the body, meaning obese people need twice as much vitamin D.

* Vitamin D is used around the world to treat Psoriasis.

* Vitamin D deficiency can cause schizophrenia.

* Seasonal Affective Disorder is caused by a melatonin imbalance initiated by lack of exposure to sunlight.

* Chronic vitamin D deficiency is often misdiagnosed as fibromyalgia because its symptoms are so similar: muscle weakness, aches and pains.

* Your risk of developing serious diseases like diabetes and cancer is reduced 50% - 80% through simple, sensible exposure to natural sunlight 2-3 times each week.

* Infants who receive vitamin D supplementation (2000 units daily) have an 80% reduced risk of developing type 1 diabetes over the next twenty years.

Shocking Vitamin D deficiency statistics:

* 32% of doctors and med school students are vitamin D deficient.

* 40% of the U.S. population is vitamin D deficient.

* 42% of African American women of childbearing age are deficient in vitamin D.

* 48% of young girls (9-11 years old) are vitamin D deficient.

* Up to 60% of all hospital patients are vitamin D deficient.

* 76% of pregnant mothers are severely vitamin D deficient, causing widespread vitamin D deficiencies in their unborn children, which predisposes them to type 1 diabetes, arthritis, multiple sclerosis and schizophrenia later in life. 81% of the children born to these mothers were deficient.

* Up to 80% of nursing home patients are vitamin D deficient.

How is ur papa ??? warning ....diabetes and BP is silent killer

My writings are harsh, crisp, but directly attacking the target,I do not mince words so very beneficial and eye opening so is useful to universe and hence sharing a person letter written to beloved sister .......not interested then just write ....REMOVE and send. ....ALOK

The diabetic patients when get anginal  pain ( heart problem) one does not know.

Diabetes patients do not  feel the pain when they get heart attack. So heart attack is silent in many specially diabetic patient. So do not wait for symptom and do Periodic Cholesterol, sugar test is a must. On any indication must rush him for ECG. If angioplasty / bypass  is advised then same must b done without delay and is 100% safe. Try to reach only large hospital and atleast in planned treatment as smaller hosp do not hv required equipment, trained staff and so on. In planned admission try to go to cashless hospital.

Family of diabetes patient has to be very careful . Last Sunday when jijaji was here at the Res of Shri Arvind Jain he had all the sweet items. It is the duty of those with him to b careful , watchful.

Diabetes patient after a certain age has to sleep in time, take all medicines in time, should not get stressed, must avoid long uncomfortable journey, spouse must accompany everywhere to assist, everyone must keep him/ her cheerful. Yoga, pravachan and music is a must.

just enter words angioplasty, diabetes, anginal pain , symptoms of anginal pain etc in Google and u ll get answers in seconds.

Remember cost of loosing a member in family is highest specially when he / she is only bread earner or he / she has old spouse ( in old age u need ur own company) / if he / she has child who r not on their feet and so on. If person is engaged in complicated business, is dealing in cash transactions, does not have clear/ inheritable  property papers, not made will, investments are not known then situation is well defined in phrase" andha pise kutta khaye" .

Simple do's for serious acidity .....

If you have been suffering from acidity, some changes in your
lifestyle can definitely ease your discomfort. However, chronic
acidity needs diagnosis and prompt treatment.

1# Stress is a villain in our lives that lead to a variety of
health concerns. Acidity is just one among them. Practising
meditation or yoga is a great stress buster.

2# Eating and drinking according to your body constitution is very
important. If you are acidic avoid alcohol, tobacco, smoking,
coffee, tea, soft drinks, sodas, sweets, processed foods, citrus
fruits, spicy masalas and fatty foods. At the same time, do not
over eat or go about with an empty stomach.

3# Eat at a regular time. Time your meal without long gaps in
between and follow the same time table everyday. Taking small meals
at regular intervals of (2-3 hours)is ideal. Also, relax when you
are eating!

4# Don't slouch while eating or drinking. Maintain a straight back
and proper body posture always.

5# Never lie down immediately after eating. It is better to walk
slowly for a few minutes after the meal. Avoid afternoon naps as
you tend to sleep immediately after lunch and will remain awake
late night as you have slept ealier in the day. Eat your dinner at
least two hours before bed time and elevate the head of the bed for
relief.

6# If you are overweight, the excessive fat in the abdominal cavity
increases the pressure inside it causing the food contents inside
the stomach to flow back to the oesophagus (reflux). So get active
and lose weight. A sedentary lifestyle can cause havoc in your
life.

7# Wear loose clothes. Avoid tight belts.

8# Avoid late night browsing or movies. Go to bed early and wake up
early.

Water intake, if insufficient can aggravate acidity and stomach
problems. Hence, it is important to take at least 3 litres of water
a day. Coconut water, carrot juice, cumin water, fibrous foods,
mint, fresh fruits like water melon, cucumber, banana are good to
be taken regularly. Using black pepper instead of chillies, ginger
in moderation, taking liquorice and amla are healthy if you have
acidity.

Pet Therapy and Depression

Pet Therapy and Depression

Learn what research is saying about the role of companion animals in helping people cope with depression.

Can owning a cat, dog, or other pet help you cope with the blues? Pet therapy, also known as animal-assisted therapy, is recognized by the National Institute of Mental Health as a type of psychotherapy for treating depression and other mood disorders. Being around pets appears to feed the soul, promoting a sense of emotional connectedness and overall well-being.
Pet therapy
How Pets Help Treat Depression
Peter Ashenden, president and CEO of the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance, has a 17-pound Shih Tzu named Bella who never leaves his side. Ashenden, who has bipolar disorder, credits 4-year-old Bella with keeping his mood level and steady, even on his worst days.
"Bella goes everywhere with me, whether it be a gala dinner or board meetings," Ashenden says. "She is my companion. By having Bella with me, it brings a piece of home with me wherever I go."
Ashenden benefits from Bella's presence in several different ways:
  • She forces him to remain active even when his depression flares up. Bella needs to be walked two to three times a day. "No matter what's going on with me, that's something that requires I get out of the house — these activities help me remain engaged."
  • She keeps him from feeling socially withdrawn. People approach Ashenden because they want to meet Bella, he says. "Sometimes going out of your comfort zone can be difficult — Bella helps break that ice for me."
  • She provides him with constant companionship. "I'm never alone," he explains. "One of the symptoms of depression is that people isolate and tend to withdraw."

Ashenden's experience with Bella isn't unique. Researchers have found that interaction with pets — even if they don't belong to you — can reduce anxiety, ease blood pressure and heart rate, and offset feelings of depression. One example showed that exposure to an aviary filled with songbirds lowered depression in elderly men at a veterans' hospital; another example noted the improved moods of depressed college students after they interacted with a therapy dog.
However, it seems that direct contact with an animal is necessary to achieve psychological benefit. People who were shown photographs of cuddly pets as part of a study did not experience the same decrease in symptoms of depression as people who actually were able to play with and touch animals.

Help for Nighttime GERD

Ask Dr. Mark Babyatsky

Help for Nighttime GERD

Q: My acid reflux is so bad when I lie down at night that it keeps me tossing and turning. What can I do for reflux when I am sleeping?
— Tony, Arizona

A:
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is caused by the reflux of stomach contents into the esophagus. When you are sitting or standing, the force of gravity reduces reflux, whereas lying down worsens reflux and its associated symptoms. One way to improve GERD during sleep is to elevate the head of your bed at least six inches above the feet with a surgical wedge or wooden boards.
Other measures that can improve GERD when you are sleeping are:
  • Avoid eating less than four hours before bedtime. Food stimulates acid secretion, which can damage the lining of the esophagus and increase the volume of the refluxed contents.
  • Avoid alcohol, smoking, peppermint, caffeine, and high-fat foods. These substances cause relaxation of the lower esophageal sphincter, which normally helps keep stomach contents from refluxing into the esophagus.
  • Weight loss also lowers the amount of pressure on the abdomen, which can help decrease reflux.
Alok adds: Hv light meal easily digestible in Dinner and hv hearty breakfast.
Do self study and note carefully which items in dinner must hv caused u more trouble and avoid those item in dinner.

Dental care .......or suffer in pain and spend more on dentist

How often do you smile?

In the next five minutes I am going to tell you some food items
that will help you give a confident smile.

1. Your teeth need calcium and phosphorus for strength and to
remineralize themselves. Hence milk, nuts, meat, chicken and cheese
are ideal for oral health. Cheese has a low carbohydrate, and high
calcium and phosphate content enabling it to balance the mouth's
pH. So, instead of chocolates and sweets have a small cube of
cheese everyday!

2. Vitamin C foods bestow healthy gums. Periodontal diseases can
increase with vitamin c deficiency as it is a great antioxidant
needed to repair connective tissue and aid bone regeneration. So
have oranges, lemons, kiwis, gooseberries and vegetables like
broccoli, green pepper, cauliflower, tomatoes and sesame seeds and
more. Add these acidic foods in to a large meal.Vitamin D
deficiency increases the risk of gum bleeding. So get some exposure
while you can.

3. Fresh raw onions in the diet can destroy various types of
bacteria, including Streptococcus mutans that cause cavities. So
eat onions, and chew a mint afterwards!

4. Mint will help you get rid of the foul smell of onions, freshen
your breath, destroy all bacteria and clean your teeth and tongue.

5. Celery is a great food for those who love their teeth. It is
chewy producing a lot of saliva, which in turn neutralizes
bacteria. Celery is also an abrasive food and serves to massage
your gums, and clean teeth. So have those crunchy apples and
carrots for dental health.

6. Catechins in green tea can kill the bacteria in the mouth that
turn sugar into cavity causing plaque. You can enjoy the health
benefits of green tea by having 2-5 cups a day.

7. Grape seed extract contains polyphenols which prevent tooth
decay and gum disease by thwarting the growth of bacteria.

8. Though water cannot called a "food" drinking plenty of water in
necessary to hydrate gums and stimulate the secretion of saliva.
That's one of the reasons why it is important to drink a glass of
water after eating food.

At last not the least, avoid eating as much sugar as possible and
smile along!
